Our inboxes are always full of emails, so it’s important to really showcase who you are and what your business is about. When sending emails to your audience, you want to make it personal and to stand out from the crowd.

Being bold and injecting personality into the copy of your email campaigns is how you can do that. We’ve put together some ideas below.

How would you talk to your friends?

One of the main reasons why people are fearful of adding personality into their copy, is that they don’t want to sound unprofessional.

You can view writing copy as if you were writing a transcript of how you would inform clients. This way, you get the best of both worlds- some injection of personality, but without losing the professional tone.

Think about how you talk to your friends. You’ll find that you happily inject your personality throughout your conversations. A natural flowing conversation gains trust and it’s the same in your copy.  A conversational tone is more human, it suggests comfort, that you are not trying to hide anything and that you respect your reader.

Next time you try writing, read your copy aloud, think about how you would explain the same thing to a friend. Although you may have to word things more ‘fully’, you can still use that same friendly tone of voice.

Don’t make your email campaigns dry

If you fill your email copy with lots of dry, dull stats, then this won’t be engaging for your audience. Yes- stats are important but find a way to share them in a more interesting way.

Think whether you can share the stats in a ‘chattier’ way, for example- ‘Did you know that 90% of…?’ Rather than ‘Reports state that 90%...’

Tell a story

Emotion is hugely effective when it comes to marketing. By getting your audience to feel, to evoke that emotion within them, you can help them to care.

As mentioned above, writing in a more descriptive way is far more entertaining. People tend to connect with stories a lot better than with a fact, or statistic. So when explaining news, or facts- think of a way you can explain this through a story.

Write in the First Person to Inject Personality

This is one of the easiest ways to transition your text from very formal to full of personality. Simply switch the way you are writing to ensure that you write  ‘I, We and You’. Ask questions within the text too, such as ‘Do you ever feel overwhelmed with your to- do list? I do!’

Or, ‘I wanted to let you know about our latest news…’ You can see instantly how much more engaging and personal that is… rather than ‘Our company reached a milestone in recent weeks’.

Stay Consistent

Although tricky, you have to keep personality consistent throughout your marketing material. Otherwise, your audience will be left confused and your brand image will be undermined.

An idea to ensure this happens each and every time is to create a brand personality included in your brand kit and as part of any onboarding training. This ensures everyone writing copy for the business has something to follow and your brands ‘personality’ will continue to shine.

Be Bold. Be You

I hope that this article has helped you to see how impactful injecting personality into email campaigns can be. It will really help to build that all important know- like- trust factor and lead to a better connection with your audience. Give it a go and let us know how you get on.
